I – SURE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The College of Engineering & Science Office of Undergraduate Research in STEM + Graduate
Opportunities (OURS+GO) is pleased to accept applications for the Internal Summer
Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program for Summer 2025.
This program is intended to provide summer research support for undergraduate students
interested in a career in research.
SURE Student Fellow Stipend: $2000
SURE Research Mentor Stipend: $500 (to faculty FGIP account)
SURE Duration: 8 weeks part time (20 hr-32 hr per week); research is to be completed between
May 5, 2025 and August 8, 2025.
Application Due Date: Tuesday, March 18, 2025
Applicant finalists may be interviewed.
II – ELIGIBILITY
- Applications will be accepted from full-time undergraduate College of Engineering & Science students who have earned at least 45 credit hours at the point of application.
III – SURE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
- At the conclusion of the experience, SURE Fellows will create and submit a 3-minute
video presentation summarizing the research they performed during Summer 2025. - SURE Fellows and mentors will submit a certificate of completion for CITI Responsible
Conduct of Research (RCR) training before summer research begins. Valid certificates
include those completed since March 2021. - SURE Fellows and mentors will submit a certificate of completion for CITI Lab Safety
training, if applicable, before summer research begins. - SURE faculty mentors are expected to participate in a mentor training workshop prior to
the summer research experience. - SURE Fellows and faculty mentors are expected to participate in a post-experience evaluation.
- SURE Fellows are expected to present at the ES Research Symposium during the Fall 2025 term.
- SURE Fellows are expected to present at the Celebration of Scholarly Achievement during the Winter 2026 term.
IV – SURE PROGRAM APPLICATION
Each student’s application will include the following:- Student Information
- Student resume
- Summary of summer research project
- Summary of student’s career plans
- Faculty confirmation of student’s research plan and intention to provide active mentorship
- Finalists may be invited to an interview to determine awardees
