Gregory M. Grabowski Associate Professor Associate Professor and Chair of Biology, has his primary interest in physiology although he has taught a wide variety of courses since joining the University in 1996. Dr. Grabowski came to the University after completion of his postdoctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health, where he began his research on pulmonary inflammation induced by metal- containing particles in industrial settings. He was awarded National Institute of Health and Center for Indoor Air fellowships to fund his postdoctoral training, as well as Slocum-Lunz fellowships to fund his graduate studies. R. Gerard Albright, S.J. Professor Professor of Biology, holds Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral degrees from Loyola University of Chicago. Since coming to the University of Detroit in 1960, he has taught a wide variety of courses and has served in various administrative capacities, including the chairmanship of the Premedical and Predental Committee. He spent a semester as Visiting Professor of Biology and academic consultant at the University of San Francisco. Stokes S. Baker Associate Professor Associate Professor of Biology, teaches courses in botany, ecology, environmental science, evolution and biological statistics. His interdisciplinary research is focused on using biotechnology to address environmental concerns. Currently, he is developing phytoremediation strategies to remove heavy metals from contaminated soils. He also performs studies on the environmental risks in using genetically engineered crops. He has published articles in scientific journals on gene regulation, gene expression, and plant development. Dr. Baker's degrees include a B.S. from Davis and Elkins College, a M.S. from SUNY's College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and the Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Mary (Tracy) Bee AssociateProfessor Mary Tracy-Bee, PhD, earned her PhD in 1999 from Wayne State University. Her research investigates variations of anatomical structures amoung different populations of humans. | James F. Graves Associate Professor of Biology Associate Professor of Biology, teaches courses in General Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathogenic Microbiology . Dr. Grave's publications and presentations have dealt with microbiology, public health, and the environment. His laboratory is doing research on bioremediation and degradation. This research has been supported by grants from the Federal Government and private industry. He is an elected member of the American Society for Microbiology. He was a Research Scientist at Indiana University, 1985-87; Research Associate at the University of Virginia, 1982-85; and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of North Carolina, 1978-82. | Barbara A. Hollar Professor Professor of Biology, teaches courses in genetics, embryology, evolution, and general biology. She holds a B.A. degree in Biology from Bucknell University and a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan. | Mark J. Ottenbreit Professor Professor of Biology, teaches cellular and molecular biology as well as general biology and general biology laboratories. His publications and professional presentations have dealt with cell culture identification. Dr. Ottenbreit is currently working on DNA fingerprinting as a tool to identify cell cultures. He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Detroit and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University. He came to the University of Detroit Mercy in 1984.
