College of Engineering and Science

Senior Design Project

In the Senior Project course, students work on teams to complete a significant design project. This is the peak classroom experience for Civil & Environmental undergraduate students.

The projects are either real projects under construction, or projects planned for the future. The student teams work with and consult with experienced engineers from local firms.

Students chose the project they work on from a list of projects including those in the areas of site development, the environment, structures/construction, and transportation. The project builds on the student's previous coursework and experience gained during their coop jobs. The student teams conduct the work as if they were true professionals at a consulting company.

The professional engineers who sponsor the projects gain by helping because they get to meet and have an impact on new engineers entering the job market. The students gain by creating a network of professional contacts they will use in their first job.
