Chemistry faculty and students present at ACS

University of Detroit Mercy Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty and students were well represented at the 254th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in Washington last month.

Here are some of the Detroit Mercy highlights:

  • Dr. Klaus Friedrich and his students presented a paper, Synthesis of novel ligands for platinum drugs, and a poster, Synthetic pathway to a modulator of mGluR5.
  • Dr. Matthew Mio had a lead role in the Committee on Education’s Examination Institute which prepares the national organic chemistry examination.
  • Dr. Kendra Evans participated on the Examinations Institute panel for the general chemistry examination.
  • Dr. Mark Benvenuto and Chemistry senior Justin Pothoof presented a poster, Synthesis of a series of long-chain aliphatic podand ligands for complexation and water remediation.  The poster was selected for inclusion at the Science Mixer!
  • Dr. Mark Benvenuto was elected to the Environmental Chemistry Division’s board as a member-at-large.
