Essential Support For Science Education

Investing in a science education and research in the near term will pay dividends for decades  to come. The 21st century is already experiencing a higher demand for chemists who are educated about the processes and challenges of the manufacturing, environmental, biochemical, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. Employers demand skilled chemists and other science professionals with knowledge and capabilities honed through intensive research and balanced with  the depth and breath of a UDM education.

Chemistry and biochemistry will have a dramatic impact on all walks of life in the future, especially in the automotive, petrochemical and manufacturing sectors, and will continue to influence health care and other biological fields. This impact will come from several important pathways including chemical/biochemical research on real-world problems, the transformation of new chemical knowledge into engineered technology, and the entry of chemistry/ biochemistry graduates into health care professions as physicians and dentists.

The University of Detroit Mercy has a strong tradition of excellent science education and seeks to improve on its record of success in producing science and engineering graduates who are thoroughly trained and broadly educated. A renovation of the historic Chemistry building will enable UDM to continue challenging students to become leaders in their professions and communities.
