UDM Engineering: At the forefront of change

china

The growing economic importance of China and the increasing links of China-based companies with Detroit based automobile manufactures and their suppliers has been well documented in recent press reports. These organizations will need technological professionals trained to function effectively in both cultures to lead these joint ventures in the new millennium.

With the introduction of the CAP Program, the University of Detroit Mercy College of Engineering & Science continues to expand its global perspective. The CAP Program is a cooperative program with Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology in the People's Republic of China and a number of corporate sponsors with operations in China.

CAP Program Goal

The Goal of the CAP Program is to educate and train technological leaders who will be prepared to lead in the development of U.S.-China technological partnerships and to be assigned as key personnel in joint industry ventures. The students develop technical, business, language and cultural capabilities by studying and completing cooperative work assignments in both China and the U.S.

The CAP Program

UDM's college of Engineering and Science has expanded its global perspectives through the establishment of the CAP Program. We strongly believe that a cooperative program with Tsinghua and Beijing Institute of Technology in the People's Republic and Companies with growing operations in China will benefit all participants. These organizations will need technological professionals trained to function effectively in both cultures.

Detroit provides an important industrial base for the UDM College of Engineering and Science students. Alumni from UDM hold key positions in all of the major U.S. automobile manufacturing organizations. These technical leaders also serve on advisory boards for the University, the College of Engineering & Science.

The CAP Program involves the enrollment of UDM students at Chinese universities, as well as a work experience in China. This work experience will be at the U.S. Corporate partners of the CAP Program.

Entrance into the CAP Program will require knowledge of the Chinese language and training in Chinese history and culture. Graduates of the CAP Program will, through their understanding of the Chinese language, customs, culture and business practices and their excellent technological education, be uniquely able to lead in the development of the U.S.-Chinese technological partnership.
