Graduate Degree Programs
Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering
The Department offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The programs requires 30 hours beyond the Bachelor's degree.
Bachelor's / Master's Program:
The Department offers an option for earning a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering simultaneously. Students who are currently in the Bachelor of Engineering program may apply to be admitted. This requires a 3.25 GPA. The benefit of the combined program is that the undergraduate financial aid continues through the graduate studies. Additionally, students can get through the master's program more quickly because the Technical Electives taken as an undergraduate can be applied to graduate studies. See details (pdf).
Master of Architecture and Civil Engineering:
Students can earn both a Master of Architecture and a Master of Civil Engineering. This is most suited to Architecture students who want to become registered as an engineer to do structural design. The architecture students take all of their electives in Civil Engineering, then one additional term of courses in Civil Engineering. Note: It is expected that licensing requirements will change in approximately 2015. After then any one who wants to become licensed will have to have a bachelor and master degree in civil engineering. Architecture students can be admitted to the graduate program, but their is no guarantee that they will be elgible to apply for a license if they don't already have a license by then. The master's degree would provide resume building potential, but not a license. A dual bachelor degree in civil engineering is recommended for architects wanting engineering licensure.
