Biology 3510 Research Symposium

Students of Biology 3510 presented their semester-long research posters Dec. 4, in the Fountain Lounge in the Student Union. Thanks to a NIH Pilot Grant, Professor of Biology, Gregory Grabowski and Associate Professor of Biology, Rachelle Belanger were able to transform the traditional Histology Lab into an inquiry-based Histotechnology Lab. In this lab, students used a rat model of diabetes to answer hypothesis-driven questions about how type 1 diabetes affects different tissues in the body. The professor’s diabetic model allowed scholars to have an abbreviated research experience that is typically not available to undergraduate students.
