Chemistry professor committed to train new faculty in evidence-based instruction

February 01, 2018

Dr. Matthew MioThe American Chemical Society’s Education Division recently formed a new group committed to mentoring, training and developing new faculty in the discipline of chemistry.  Dr. Matthew Mio, professor of chemistry, was appointed to this national committee.

The new group called “New Faculty Workshops” contains a representative mix of faculty from both research and primarily undergraduate institutions (PUI).

“I see my role as bringing the PUI angle of new faculty to the table and to help run a session or two in-person at the ACS Headquarters next summer,” said Mio.  “The workshops will help bring classically-trained scientists, who usually only get instruction in lab science and not teaching, up to speed with evidence-based instruction methods.”

Last summer, Mio was appointed as Chair of ACS’s Division of Chemical Education’s Examinations Institute.  (See Mio appointed to chair national committee, July 21, 2017)

Congratulations, Dr. Mio.
