Joseph VaglicaBuildings are responsible for most of the global energy use, resource consumption and carbon emission.  Civil, architectural and environmental engineering students at Detroit Mercy will be well-positioned to construct, lead and manage green projects thanks to a new course offering.

The new class is being offered to increase awareness of green construction and provide knowledge and capabilities to manage and design green construction projects.

“The primary objective of the class is to teach students the behavior of buildings - how buildings work,” says Joseph Vaglica, course instructor.  “The course will provide a new outlook on design, construction, maintenance and occupant performance which will enrich and alter perspective on sustainability initiatives.”

Green construction accounts for nearly 40% of new jobs in the green economy and nearly a third of all construction jobs according to a 2015 article, Why green building is red hot.
