ReBUILDetroit faculty presents on summer experience program

Dr. Jacob Kagey, associate professor of biology and ReBUILDetroit student training core director, presented data on the effects of the summer experience program for incoming ReBUILDetroit freshmen at the 2017 Transforming STEM Higher Education: Discovery, Innovation, and the Value of Evidence in San Francisco on November 4.

The title of the poster was “Summer Program: Enhancing Success of Historically Under-represented Students Entering College” whose authorship included: Stephanie B. Conant, Jacob D. Kagey, Kristen M. Abraham, Jeanne Andreoli, Dawn Archey, Jeffrey J. Boats, Kendra R. Evans, Jonathan S. Finkel, Gregory Grabowski, Harold H. Greene, Melanie Hwalek, Terri Laws, Matthew Mio, Irfana Muqbil, Nicole A. Najor, Victoria Straub, Prasad Venugopal, and Katherine Snyder.

The conference presented by the Association of American Colleges and Universities addressed the importance of STEM proficiency for STEM majors and non-majors alike, as well as the importance of empowering the faculty on whom we rely to increase the number of competitively trained and liberally educated graduates.
