The student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) at Detroit Mercy spent the weekend pouring their concrete canoe.
The team is preparing for this year’s concrete canoe competition in the North Central Conference of ASCE in April.
“There’s a lot of planning and preparation that goes into the canoe,” says Dr. James Lynch, professor of Civil Engineering. “Each year we make adjustments to our vessel and document its progress.”
The team is led by captain Brian O’Hara, a junior in civil engineering.
The canoe will remain in the highbay for the next 30 days as it cures. At that time, the mold will be carefully removed.
