University of Detroit Mercy standout junior men's track and field runner and electrical engineer Ben Kendell was named the Horizon League's Runner of the Week on February 14.

Kendell lowered his all-time Titan record in the 5,000m to 14:10.10, shaving more than seven seconds off of his previous best. The mark earned Kendell the gold medal in a field of more than 180 competitors from Grand Valley State's Big Meet last weekend.

Kendell's mark is the fastest in the Horizon League by nearly 30 seconds during the current indoor season. The time is the fastest indoor 5,000m in the Horizon League since February of 2012.

Kendell has topped two of his Titan records already this season. He lowered his 3,000m record at the YSU National Invitational prior to last weekend's 5k at GVSU. He is also the school's all-time record holder in the 10,000m.

The accolade is the fourth of Kendell's track and field career and first of the 2017 season.

Check out Kendall and the rest of the track and field team as they compete in the Horizon League Indoor Championships this weekend.

Congratulations, Ben!
