Mechanical engineer alumnus welcomed as Trustee

Eric Stanczak '93 mechanical engineering, chief engineer for Full Size Trucks at General Motors Company, who was recently welcomed to the University of Detroit MercyBoard of Directors.

Eric StanczakHe is responsible for engineering, development and total product line profitability for full-size pickups and sport utility vehicles. He has held a number of executive positions within General Motors, including program director, Global Accessories, purchasing director for Global Infotainment and Telematics and director, Chassis Engineering for General Motors Europe.

Committed to lifelong learning and education, he has been active in education at GM, currently serving on the selection committee for the Technical Education Program. He was the former executive champion for the graduate certificate in Design for Customer Value and Market Success from Stanford Universality as well as former distance learning class proctor.  Stanczak volunteers on a regular basis through General Motors in activities such as Habitat for Humanity and the Cody Rouge Project that has a special interest in the revitalization of Detroit.  He enjoys mentoring and volunteering at career development events and recruiting.

He earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Detroit in 1993 where he was a four-year letter winner and captain of the baseball team. Stanczak was awarded a General Motors Fellowship and went on to get his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1999.  He and his wife are the proud parents of three children and reside in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
