Bob Hamilton ’72 civil engineering is a successful entrepreneur, civic leader and inspiring mentor who has taken the role of engineer to new heights. He is well known throughout Chicagoland for projects ranging from roads and parklands to sewer systems and LEED-certified developments.

He and his partner Dave Gewalt strategically built Gewalt Hamilton Associates into a major engineering firm that employs 80 team members. The firm’s work has enhanced the quality of life for millions of residents and visitors by improving infrastructure, revving up road safety and restoring water quality.

Now in retirement, Hamilton shares his love for flying with those less fortunate. He is a pilot in the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) Young Eagles program. The program has flown more than 350 children 8 to 17 providing them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly in a general aviation airplane for free.

He is a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight Central, which provides air transportation at no cost to individuals who need medical treatment, but can’t afford a flight.

Hamilton serves on the College’s Board of Advisors and continues to mentor to the next generation of engineers, guiding them to deploy their skills and expertise with a humanitarian touch.
