Shelby Maurice: Science Student of the Year

March 30, 2016

Shelby Maurice, a senior in Biology, continues to smile from ear to ear since winning the Science Student of the Year at the Slide Rule Dinner earlier this month.

“I am humbled to receive this honor,” says Maurice.  “It is an unforgettable moment which I will cherish forever.”

Maurice credits her UDM experience for becoming a well rounded and a better person based on the Jesuit and Mercy traditions.

“UDM is a small school with lots of opportunities,” says Maurice.  “I am ‘plugged-in’ to activities on and off-campus and this allows me to give back to the community.”

Maurice is a very active campus leader.

“My work as a campus leader and student prepared me to succeed.  While at UDM, I took full advantage of every opportunity the school, city and outstanding faculty offered.”

“It’s an honor to be recognized for my academic and leadership on campus for these past four years,” says Maurice.  “In looking back, maybe I did make a difference in my time here.”

Maurice is a graduate of Oakland Early College (high school) and will attend Western University of Health Sciences next year to obtain her doctor of medicine in dentistry.
