Professor honored as a leading mechanical engineer

Dr. Nihad Dukhan, professor in mechanical engineering, is recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Dr. Dukhan's AMSE AwardAs a Fellow, Dukhan is among the top 2% of AMSE’s 140,000 members located in 151 countries around the world.

Founded in 1880, ASME continues “to be the essential resource for mechanical engineers and other technical professionals throughout the world for solutions that benefit humankind,” says Thomas G. Loughlin, Executive Director in a congratulatory letter.

“It is an honor to be nominated and selected for this prestigious award,” says Dukhan.  “It is distinction for me, the College of Engineering & Science and the University.”

Dukhan’s publication record includes more than 130-refereed publications including 40 journal articles, over 90 conferences and one book mostly in the science and technology of metal foam.

As an undergraduate and graduate instructor, Dukhan received UDM’s highest award, the Faculty Achievement Award, for outstanding teaching. His publications include numerous papers on engineering education pedagogies.

In 2014, Dukhan received another honor: the prestigious Fulbright Scholar Award to Istanbul Technical University.

“Having such a distinguished faculty member in our College speaks to the high-caliber education our students receive,” says Dr. Gary Kuleck, Dean of the College of Engineering.
