The University of Detroit Mercy’s College of Engineering & Science is a proud sponsor of the “Best Rookie Award” and serve as judges at Michigan Regional Future City Competition at the Suburban Collection in Novi, January 25.

The Future City Competition is a cross-curricular educational program where students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades imagine, design and build cities of the future hosted by the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD).

Judging this year’s event from UDM are Dr. Nassif Rayess, assistant dean and Dr. Darrell Kleinke, chair of mechanical engineering and faculty advisor for UDM’s ESD student chapter.

"We are very impressed with the future generation of engineers,” says Kleinke.  “Thanks to ESD for giving the students the opportunity to show their potential."

Winners of the region go to the national competition in Washington, D.C. in February.
