'Canoe' help out?

November 18, 2015

UDM’s student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is hosting a “Smash-A-Canoe” fundraiser from noon to 2 pm on Monday, November 23.

Stop by the south side of the Engineering Building to take a swing at the “retired” 2014 concrete canoe.  For $2 a swing or $5 for three hits, you will be able to shatter the former racing vessel and support this year’s team.

Every Spring, universities from across North America compete their concrete canoes in a test of civil engineering.

“This is a big event for us,” says Dr. James Lynch.  “Our students look forward to the construction and race every year.”

“There is a cost associated with transporting a concrete canoe,” says Lynch.  “Fundraisers like the Smash-A-Canoe and our sponsors help off-set the costs.”

The 2016 concrete canoe race is hosted by Michigan State University on April 7 to 9th.
