Many faculty, staff and students have already experienced Karla Lewis’ helpfulness and kindness in the Dean’s Office.

Lewis serves as administrative assistant for the College of Engineering & Science.  Although she has been a fixture in the Dean’s Office since September 2014, she joined the ranks of full-time University employees in May.

I am very excited to be working in academia again,” says Lewis.  “I spent six years working at the University of Chicago.  It was a great experience.

Lewis also has experience working in non-profit organizations.  She worked at the BlueCap Blue Island Citizens with Developmental Disabilities outside of Chicago, Illinois.  “I enjoy helping people,” says Lewis.  “It is fulfilling knowing that I am able to assist in answering or directing someone’s question.

As administrative assistant for the College, Lewis is often the first person visitors, alumni and faculty encounter in the Dean’s Office.  From scheduling conference rooms, to arranging meetings for alumni and the Dean, to providing directions, Lewis does so with a smile and friendly nature.

If you have not had an opportunity to meet Karla, please feel free to stop by the Dean’s Office in E 126 and welcome her to the College of Engineering & Science.

[editor’s note: this is the first in a series of articles aimed at introducing faculty and staff in the College of Engineering & Science.]
