College of Engineering & Science professors Dr. Leo Hanifin and Dr. Robert Ross presented papers at the American Society for Engineering Education in Seattle, Washington last week.  The conference is dedicated to all disciplines of engineering and engineering technology education.

Dr. Hanifin highlighted in his paper, Innovative Confidence: What Engineering Educators Can Do and Say to Graduate More Effective Innovators and Intrapreneurs, that starting with small tasks such as case studies improves self-efficacy.  Hanifin said, “Entrepreneurs flourish in our classrooms only when they work on projects with high societal value.”  This paper can be downloaded from the conference website.

Operational Definition and Assessment was presented by Dr. Ross.  The focus of his paper was on the assessment of student learning.  By utilizing operational definitions in student learning outcomes, one can more readily generate valid assessments. At the same time, the assessment can also be used to change instructional practice enhancing student achievement.  This paper can be downloaded from the conference web site.
