About the Mathematics & Computer Science Department

UDM's Department of Mathematics & Computer Science is committed to excellence in instruction in computer science and mathematics-related disciplines. The Department is recognized within the University community and nationally for its caring and innovative teaching of both mathematics and computer science majors and supporting mathematics courses for those pursuing other studies. One of the recent innovations of the Department has been the adoption of symbolic manipulation systems for the entire spectrum of mathematics offerings.

In addition to the support the Department offers to other programs, it has three main academic programs of its own: Mathematics, Computer Science and Teaching of Mathematics.

The Department has implemented its commitment to equal opportunity for all by involving itself in several activities. The Department is actively committed to the Project Challenge Project of the University of Detroit Mercy, whereby students starting in the ninth grade work to prepare themselves for the college environment.

The Department also works with the UAW and GM, Ford, and Chrysler to give workers in these organizations opportunity for undergraduate and graduate study. It has been an active participant in other efforts to provide opportunities to "disadvantaged" students.
