Math and Computer Science Activities

Here are some of the activities of interest to Mathematics & Computer Science students outside the classroom.

Math Club

The Mathematics & Computer Science Club is for all students, faculty, and other members of the University who are interested in mathematics and computer science. This group funds itself by operating a book sale once or twice a year, using books donated by mathematics community members.

Activities of the group include discussion of topics related to mathematics and computer science, presenting mathematics and computer science to the University community, presenting seminars and other events on campus and elsewhere, and having mathematical and computer fun.

Pi Mu Epsilon (Beta Chapter)

Pi Mu Epsilon (PME) is a national mathematics professional fraternity/sorority. The University of Detroit Mercy chapter is the Beta Chapter, i.e. the state's second oldest PME chapter. Induction into this organization is recognition of excellence in mathematics and dedication to furthering mathematics and related disciplines.

The main activity of Pi Mu Epsilon is the Annual Banquet in which new members are inducted, a guest speaker addresses general topics in mathematics, reports of the year's activities are given, plans for the coming year are made, and attendees enjoy the company of like-minded people.

ACM Student Chapter

The Association for Computing Machinery, or ACM, was founded in 1947 as the world's first scientific and educational computing society. The Association focuses on advancing computing as a science and a profession.

The student chapter program is a part of ACM's mission to facilitate the exchange of ideas between students and professionals in the IT and computing world. ACM student chapters work to provide opportunities for students to meet and learn from faculty, professionals and other students at more than 500 colleges and universities worldwide. Activities of the student chapters include the International Collegiate Programming Contest, and a Student Research Competition.

Women in Computing Chapter (coming soon)

The Association for Women in Computing is a non-profit professional organization for women and men who have an interest in information and technology. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of women in the technology fields. This association is for all students, faculty and other members of the University who are interested in information technology as well as advancement of women in the technology fields.

Computer Club

The Computer Science Club is for all students, faculty, and other members of the University who are interested in computer science. Activities of the group include discussion of topics related computer science, presenting computer science to the university community, presenting seminars and other presentations on campus and elsewhere, and having computer fun.
