Detroit Mercy Mathematics Competition

Are you a natural problem solver? Or, maybe you excel at logic and reasoning.  Do you love mathematics?  Are you a high school student?

For high school students interested in mathematics, we offer two contests to test your skills and possibly win prizes!

Detroit Mercy Mathematics Math Puzzle (Online)

The Detroit Mercy Web Math Puzzle for high school students will challenge your mathematical skills and begin to prepare you for your mathematical future.

Take the challenge and unleash your inner mathematician!

MathDetMercy Snapchat Competition: Every few months, we will post a new question with a specified deadline.  You will need to find a solution and submit your answer to: dmmc@udmercy.edu.
Winners: Web Puzzle winners will be announced on this website.

Detroit Mercy Mathematics Competition (On Campus)

We're hosting the Detroit Mercy Mathematics Competition for high school students in a friendly competition that tests your problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge.

Our award-winning faculty love mathematics and want to see you become the next generation of problem-solvers.

Registration

When: Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 10 am to 2:30 pm 
Where: University of Detroit Mercy, Engineering Building
Who: High School students
Prize: 1st place: $500, 2nd place: $300, 3rd place: $200. In addition, there will be honorable mentions and recognition on the website for top performers.

Competition: The competition will test your mathematical background and challenge your problem-solving skills.  The exam will consist of multiple choice questions and problem-solving questions that will require a written response.

Following the competition, professors will grade your exam and winners will be notified via the contact information provided during registration.

Following the exam, you will have an opportunity to talk with current students, alumni and faculty in the mathematics department.  See where your future could go by obtaining a mathematics degree from University of Detroit Mercy.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1.  When and Where is the Exam:

    The DMMC competition will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. The competition will take place in the Engineering Building at the University of Detroit Mercy McNichols campus.

    2. What is the cost?
    The event is free for all registered participants. Lunch will be provided.

    3.  What is the exam format?
    The exam will be in two parts. The first part will be multiple choice. The second part will be problems that will require solutions in the form of a mathematical proof.

    4.  What will be the question difficulty?
    There will be questions on the exam that will test general mathematical knowledge. However, there will also be questions that will require a deeper understanding of mathematics. These questions will be on the same level as the Math Puzzles.
