FIRST Robotics Scholarship Program

Scholarship Description

In support of the FIRST mission, University of Detroit Mercy is offering two $5,000 FIRST Scholarship to high school seniors interested in Robotics & Mechatronic Systems Engineering.

In addition to the FIRST Scholarship, students can become eligible for other Detroit Mercy academic scholarships which range in value from $11,500 - $23,000 per year. The application for admission to Detroit Mercy serves as the application for Detroit Mercy academic scholarships. Apply for admission at www.udmercy.edu/apply.

Eligibility

To become eligible for the FIRST Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a senior in high school.
  • Have participated on a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team or a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team.
  • Apply and be admitted to Detroit Mercy’s Engineering program as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor of Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Engineering.
  • Have a minimum ACT of 23 or a combined SAT score of at least 1000 and a GPA of at least a 3.0.

Scholarship Renewability

The FIRST Scholarship is renewable up to a total of $20,000 over four years as long as the following criteria are met:

  • Students must remain in good academic standing according to the University’s Scholarship Renewal Policy.
  • Maintain continuous, full-time enrollment.

Scholarship Application Package

To apply for the FIRST Scholarship, complete the application package, including:

  • Detroit Mercy FIRST Scholarship Application.
  • Submit a 500-word essay about how your FIRST experience has influenced your career goals.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from an adult mentor/coach on your FIRST team.

The completed FIRST Scholarship application package must be received by May 1st. Students can mail, fax, or email documents to:
